Anthony Road Unoaked Chardonnay 2014: $17 Good

The Anthony Road Unoaked Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $17 [Good] is a bit of an improvement over 2013.  Unlike the previous year, this ‘14 is not sweet and does have enlivening acidity.  However, weak aromas and a deficit of flavor hold this wine back.  It is too expensive for its level of quality.

Pale greenish lemon in color, the nose has a notable “chem lab” quality, with mineral acidity eclipsing modest aromas of apple, peach and citrus.  Medium bodied, dry, round and satiny, with high acidity, the AR is well balanced.  Light and elusive flavors of apple, stone fruit and tropical fruit are touched by a slight mineral note.  The finish is quite tart, with modest flavor but good length.  Not a bad wine, but it lacks substance.  June 2015
