Sheldrake Point Chardonnay 2014: $15 Good+

The Sheldrake Point Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $15 [Good+] is a well-made Chardonnay, with aromas and flavors on the citrus-y side of the spectrum.  This wine sometimes tastes more like Sauvignon Blanc than Chardonnay.   With just a tad more intensity it would have made it into the “very good” category.

Medium bright lemon in color, tart aromas of ctirus zest, grapefruit, green apple and a hint of vanilla suggest Sauvignon Blanc as much as Chardonnay.  Medium bodied, silky, dry, with a good dose of spritz-y acidity, balance is quite good.  Tart flavors of apple, green apple, grapefruit, citrus zest, pepper, and just a bit of Chardonnay creaminess have good concentration and focus.  The finish is balanced, with average length.  November 2015.
