Wild Brute Chardonnay 2014: $20 Good+

The Wild Brut Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) $20 [Good+] may be wild, but it is no brute.  Soft and gentle, with a creamy mouth feel and good focused flavors, this wine is nice to sip.  It will work with lighter foods too.

The WB is medium lemon in color, with an amber cast.  Funky “wooly” scents (which often occur in “natural” fermentations) combine with white peach, lemon, pepper and baking spices in a modestly intense nose.  Light to medium bodied, with a creamy mouth feel and some peppery acidity, balance is good.  Light and gentle flavors of creamy white peach, ripe apple, baking spices and a funky wooly/meaty note have nice focus and harmony.  The finish turns tarter, towards the funky side, with a concluding smack of the lips.  Some light wooly/meaty notes linger.  December 2015
