Red Tail Ridge “Sans Oak” Chardonnay 2015: $11 Very Good

The Red Tail Ridge Winery “Sans Oak” Chardonnay (Doyle Fournier Vineyard, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $11 [Very Good] is a terrific bargain.  Easy-drinking, fresh, and well made, this wine has lively dancing flavors.  Nimble, with a light touch, it could be described as the Fred Astaire of Chardonnays.  A bit sweeter than last year’s model (also very good), this is a medium dry wine.  The dab of sugar makes it a good sipper or a wine to drink with salads and lighter foods.

Medium lemon in color, the aromas are fresh and clear, with scents of ripe apple, pear, a waxy note, and a dab of smoky mineral.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with good zesty acidity, the RTR has a gentle & well-balanced mouth feel.  Flavors of ripe apple, pear, tangerine, a waxy/buttery note, and smoky mineral are focused with good concentration.  The finish is precise and balanced, with good length.  March 2016
