Sheldrake Point Chardonnay 2015: $18 Good

The Sheldrake Point Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $18 [Good] is a light intensity wine.  Fruit flavors take a back seat to seltzery mineral and earthy notes.  Although the wine lacks power, it is well balanced.  Drink it with light foods.

Light lemon in color, aromas of apple and fruit cocktail are matched by a surfeit of loamy soil notes, giving the wine a rather leaden character.  Medium bodied, slightly viscous, with average acidity, balance is good.  Flavors of waxy apple and lemon are suffused with loamy soil notes, seltzer-y mineral, and a touch of bitterness.  The finish is of-a-piece, austere and lightly bitter, and short in length.  November 2016
