Fox Run “Doyle Family” Chardonnay 2016: $10 to $14 Very Good

No doubt about it.  Not since 2013 has Fox Run produced such an attractive “Doyle Family” Chardonnay.  Full flavored, spicy, with Peter Bell’s trademark dose of Traminette, the Fox Run “Doyle Family” Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) $10 to $14 [Very Good] is a tremendous buy.  Chardonnay lovers may want to purchase a case, for anytime enjoyment.

Medium lemon yellow in color, aromas of pear, nectarine, melon, a mild floral note, and smoky mineral are attractive.  Medium bodied, with a round mouth feel and spicy acidity, balance is good.  Solid flavors of pear, nectarine and lemon are inflected with wax, white pepper, smoky mineral and a light bitter note.  The finish is notably peppery and spicy (the Traminette showing some influence), with a little smack of the lips and good length.  March 2017
