Red Tail Ridge Gewürztraminer 2016: $18 Good+

The Red Tail Ridge Gewürztraminer (Seneca Lake, NY) 2016 $18 [Good+] is a full-bodied sweetish Gewürztraminer with aromas and flavors that tend to play hide and seek — sometimes forthright, sometimes rather diffuse.  This wine did not show nearly as well on day two, so drink it at one sitting.  It is probably best as a sipper.

Light to medium lemon in color, the lightly sweet and diffuse aromas include scents of pear, pineapple, lime zest, beeswax, a floral note, and a touch of chalky mineral.  Full bodied, mouth filling, and medium dry to medium sweet, there is a good dose of mouth tingling spice.  Balance is good.  Flavors of pear, pineapple, lychee, a dash of citrus, and a big dollop of ginger spice have good concentration.  The finish turns quite gingery and spicy, with good length.  March 2017
