Standing Stone Gewürztraminer 2016: $15 Good+

The Standing Stone Vineyards Gewürztraminer (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $15 [Good+] is a minty and spicy example of the variety with solid flavors and decent balance.  It is best with food.

Bright medium lemon yellow in color, aromas of mint, lychee and lots of nose tickling spice are in the forefront, with some tropical fruit in the lower register.  One would have to describe the aromas as predominately cool and spicy.  Full bodied, off dry to medium dry, with low acidity, the combination of spice and high alcohol make this a peppery mouthful of wine, with fair balance.  Flavors of pear, tropical fruit, lychee, and lots of peppery spice have good concentration, but balance is an issue.  The finish is alcoholic and spicy with average length.  December 2017
