Fulkerson Grüner Veltliner 2015: $14 Very Good

The Fulkerson Winery Grüner Veltliner (Finger Lakes, NY) $14 [Very Good] practically shouts “Spring!”  Unfortunately, this wine and the actual weather disagree.  But even if you can't convince yourself that the tulips are up, the light and sprightly aromas and flavors of this wine will probably bring a smile to your face.  Very true to the variety, with good concentration, green apple / lemon grass flavors, and lots of vivacity, this wine can be sipped or served with lighter vegetable dishes, salads and fish.  It is a very good buy.

Bright light lemon in color, the aromas are floral, with scents of green apple, lemon/lime, lemongrass, and chalky mineral.  Medium bodied, dry and silky, with vibrant acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of green apple, lemon/lime, white peach, lemon grass, white pepper and chalky mineral are refreshing, with good intensity and focus.  The finish is balanced, with very good persistence and length.  Notes of green apple and pepper linger.  Drink this wine now for its freshness and vibrancy.  November 2016
