Ryan William Grüner Veltliner 2015: $27 Good+

The Ryan William Grüner Veltliner (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $27 [Good+] is an understated wine, but true to the variety.  While one wishes for more intensity, it is well made, and will please those who prefer more subtle flavors.  Sip this wine or drink it with mildly flavored foods.

Medium straw yellow in color, cool aromas of mint, celery and lemongrass hover over some deeper notes of green apple and pineapple.  The aromas gain a bit more intensity with time and aeration.  Medium bodied, soft, dry, with below average acidity, balance is good.  Modest flavors of green apple and pineapple are heavily accented by celery seed, white pepper and mineral.  There is also a light saline streak that underlines the flavors.  The finish is mineral, with a slight green apple tang, and average length.  October 2017
