Hermann J. Wiemer Grüner Veltliner 2016: $27 Good+

The Hermann J. Wiemer Grüner Veltliner (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $27 [Good+] is pure and well made; mineral and herbal flavors predominate.  Soft, with polite flavors and a short finish, it falls by the wayside with food.

Medium lemon yellow in color, the aromas are on the savory side, with scents of bay leaf, anise, mineral and earth superseding light notes of stone fruit and lemon/lime.  Medium bodied, off dry, with a soft mouth feel, balance is good.  Lightly intense flavors of white peach, bay leaf and slate are accented by a touch of lime.  The finish is balanced, uneventful and short.  September 2017

Note: The aromas of this wine were richer after a day in the fridge.  Grüner lovers might put this bottle away for a year or two to see it it improves.
