Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Blanc 2016: $17 Good to Good+

One might think that the warm weather of 2016 would have resulted in a ripe and unctuous Pinot Blanc from Dr. Frank.  But no, the Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Blanc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $17 [Good to Good+] is anything but.  Dry, tart, and lean, with lemon and green apple flavors, this wine is well made but not very enticing or interesting.  Six months to two years of aging might help it to round out and develop some character.  Drink this bottle with salads and other tart & light dishes.

Sharp tart aromas of lemon, green apple, white pepper, mineral, and a slight waxy note have some substance.  Medium bodied, dry, tart and peppery, with a round mouth feel, balance is good.  Flavors of lemon, green apple, and white pepper have some substance but are rather straightforward.  The finish is balanced, tart, and spicy with good length.  April 2017.
