Goose Watch Viognier 2016: $18 Good

Goose Watch is the only winery in the Finger Lakes to grow and produce Viognier.  The Goose Watch Winery Viognier (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $18 [Good] is a fruity wine with flavors of canned peaches and citrus.  It doesn’t lack intensity, but simple flavors and bitter green notes detract from its appeal.

Medium straw in color, the aromas are rather awkward, with scents of lemon, canned peaches, a light buttery note, earth, and bitter herbs.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with above average acidity, balance is good.  Flavors of canned peaches, lemon, orange, hints of anise, and a bitter green note have good intensity, but the bitter green note detracts.  The finish is tart, angular, bitter/weedy, with good length.  September 2017
