Mazza Chautauqua Pinot Grigio 2015: $15 Very Good

The Mazza Chautauqua Cellars Pinot Grigio (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015: $14 [Very Good] always seems to be one of the best Pinot Gris wines produced in the Finger Lakes.  This 2015 doesn’t have the richness and power of the 2012, but is a little step up over the 2013.  Very good richness plus tangy acidity make this wine a fine sipper or food wine.  It was very nice with some cold chicken at a picnic.  The price is quite reasonable, making this wine a great value.

Medium lemon in color, medium intense aromas of peach, apricot, lime, almonds and a slight metallic note make for a nice balance of oily/waxy and tangy elements.  Medium bodied, dry, with a slightly viscous mouth feel, there is an abundance of vibrant peppery acidity.  Balance is very good.  Flavors of sappy/buttery white peach, apricot, lime, pepper and an earthy/stony note are well-focused with very good concentration.  The finish is firm, balanced, peppery, and lip-smacking, with very good length.  July 2016
