Hector Wine Company Sauvignon Blanc 2016: $14 Good

Much like the Hector Wine Company’s 2016 Pinot Gris, the Hector Wine Company Sauvignon Blanc (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $14 [Good] is a big alcoholic wine, with muddled flavors and so-so balance.  Serve this wine very cold and drink it with food.

Light straw in color, there is a bit of fizz on pouring.  The fizz dissipates quickly and doesn’t affect the flavors.  Light intensity aromas of lime, melon, anise and a hint of mango have some initial appeal, but as the wine airs the aromas flatten and are more muddled.  Full bodied, dry, satiny, and mouth filling, there is some obvious alcoholic heat.  Balance is OK.  Very ripe flavors of melon and anise have some substance but are bland and lack liveliness and clarity.  The finish is spicy, alcoholic and hot, with good length.  September 2017.
