Bloomer Creek Cabernet Franc 2013: $26 Very Good to Very Good+

The Bloomer Creek Vineyard Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) $26 [Very Good to Very Good+] is a funky, flavorful, and lively wine — the life of the wine party.  Made in a “natural wine” style, it is without any marked wine faults.  Substantial flavors of sweet strawberry fruit are accented by spice, balsamic, and horse barn.  Oddly, it reminded me of a red Macvin from the Jura region of France.  As Bloomer Creek Cabernet Franc goes, this one seems less age worthy and serious, but still interesting and quite fun to drink.  This bottle already shows some age, so consume it over the next year or so, by itself or with food.

Somewhat cloudy, the BC is medium ruby/garnet in color, showing some age.  Moderately intense aromas of ripe strawberry, balsamic, sandalwood spice, mint, horse barn and stones are interesting and fun to revisit.  Medium bodied, with a modicum of grippy tannin to hold the wine together, balance is good.  Lively flavors of ripe raspberry, plum, balsamic, spice, mint and stones have good concentration and some intrigue.  The finish turns heavier, more rustic and savory, with very good length.  Flavors of ripe red fruit, spice and stones linger.  July 2017
