Fox Run Cabernet Franc 2013: $20 Very Good

This year’s edition of the Fox Run Vineyards Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2013 $20 [Very Good] is quite soft and fruity, more Beaujolais-like than last year’s model.  This is a good quaffer but also works well with food.

Medium ruby in color, the nose has a touch of barnyard (which diminishes with air), dried leaves, bright/floral raspberry fruit, and hints of earth. The fresh and fruity nose suggests Beaujolais.  Full bodied, round, silky, and quite soft, there is a little tannin for structure.  The flavors of candied raspberry have good concentration and are fairly straightforward, with accents of spice and mineral.  The finish is of a piece, moderately long, with the aftertaste of bright raspberry, tobacco, and saline mineral.  February 2015
