Bellangelo Cabernet Franc 2014: $22 Good+ to Very Good

The Bellangelo Cabernet Franc (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $22 [Good+ to Very Good] is a well-made wine with nice balance and some complexity.  It needs a touch more flavor concentration to hit the “very good” mark squarely.  Good balance allows it to work well with light-to-medium intense foods.

Light ruby in color, aromas of jammy raspberry, graphite, mint, tobacco, bitter herbs and pepper have good intensity.  Medium bodied and silky, with fairly unobtrusive well-intergrated tannin, balance is quite good.  Flavors of raspberry, cherry, mint, tobacco, pepper, and a dash of bitter herbs have good intensity.  The finish is balanced, with a bit of a tang, and concludes with bitter herbs and a slow peppery burn.  Length is good.  June 2016
