Atwater “North Block Six” Cabernet Franc 2015: $18 Good+

The Atwater Estate Vineyards “North Block Six” Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $18 [Good+] has some very positive attributes. There is plenty of fruit.  Smooth fine grained tannins and a lush mouthfeel are also a real plus.  Green and bitter notes are this wine's downside, reducing its appeal.  This bottle is best with food.

Medium ruby in color, aromas of raspberry, peach, blueberry, peppery spice, tobacco, and a sweaty green note have freshness and intensity but the green note detracts.  Medium to full bodied, soft and satiny, with fine grained tannins, the mouth feel is very appealing.  Juicy flavors of raspberry, peach, and black berries join peppery spice, a sweaty green note, and a some unwanted bitterness.  The finish turns a bit more tannic and peppery/spicy, with good length.  July 2017
