Ravines Cabernet Franc 2015: $22 Very Good to Very Good+

The Ravines Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) $22 [Very Good to Very Good+] has a very attractive and harmonious nose, lightly tart medium-intense flavors which may develop more nuance and intensity with age, and good balance.  It is best as a dinner wine.

Medium ruby-violet in color, the aromas are effusive and multi-dimensional, with scents of raspberry, black currant, roasted nuts, vanilla, lead pencil and some peppery spice.  Medium bodied, on the tart side, with low-to-moderate well intergrated tannin, balance is good.  Tart well concentrated flavors of raspberry and black currant, roasted nuts, cedar, lead pencil and a little peppery spice are satisfying.  The finish is lively, with a bit of peppery spice and good length.  Spicy notes linger.  February 2017

Note: Given its performance in the fridge overnight, this wine seems destined to improve with age.  Don’t be afraid to stash a few bottles away for the future.
