Zugibe Cabernet Franc 2015: $17 Poor to Fair

The Zugibe Vineyards Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $17 [Poor to Fair] possesses some attractive fruit, but it is a flawed wine.  Notes of finger nail polish, acetic acid and bitterness indicate the fruit was impure or the fermentation went awry.

Light ruby/brick in color, notes of finger nail polish, acetic acid, bitter green stems, and vanilla/tobacco dominate the aromas, with some fruit in the background.  Medium bodied, with light gritty tannin, balance is OK.  Substantial and attractive red and black fruit is greatly undermined by bitterness, sour acetic acid, and fingernail polish notes.  The finish is sour and bitter, with good length.  February 2018

Note: After a day in the fridge this wine smelled like pickles.  Be sure to drink it in one sitting.
