Damiani “MC2” 2015: $18 Very Good to Very Good+

Damiani has achieved an admirable consistency over the years with its MC2, a wine made of nearly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  The Damiani Wine Cellars “MC2” Red Wine (Finger Lakes, NY) $18 [Very Good to Very Good+] is a lean, savory, well balanced wine with with a good deal of flavor.  It should improve with a year or two of age.  It will work well with many dinner dishes, from Rigatoni with Spicy Italian Sausage to Baked Chicken and other meat items.

Medium ruby in color, the aromas are tart and medium intense, with scents of plum, black currant, red currant, graphite, smoke, tobacco and a very light green heraceous note.  Medium bodied, with a satiny texture, above average acidity, and a good deal of tannin, balance is very good.  Flavors of red currant, plum, black currant, lead pencil, and tobacco have very good concentration and focus.  The finish is on the tart side for a red, somewhat gritty, with very good length.  April 2017
