Billsboro Syrah 2015: $32 Good+ to Very Good

The Billsboro Winery Syrah (Sawmill Creek Vineyards, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $32 [Good+ to Very Good] is a solid wine, with moderately intense flavors of blackberry and black cherry.  It is expensive, given its quality level.  Drink it with food.

Medium ruby in color, cool aromas of blackberry and black cherry are accented by vanilla, tar, black pepper and stone.  With air, oaky notes exert more influence, with scents of leather and dried mushroom coming to the fore.  Medium bodied, with light to medium intense tannin and average acidity, balance is good.  Medium intense flavors of tart/seedy blackberry and black cherry are accompanied by vanilla, spice and black pepper.  This wine isn’t especially intense, but the flavors have good purity and definition.  The finish is of a piece with good length.  November 2017
