Fulkerson Syrah 2016: $20 Very Good

This is Fulkerson’s first estate Syrah, from vines planted in 2014.  Unoaked, with juicy ripe flavors, it is very easy to quaff.  Think of it as Finger Lakes Beaujolais, with a slightly different flavor profile.  A great sipper, this bottle can also accompany dinner.

The Fulkerson Winery Syrah (Estate, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $20 [Very Good] is medium ruby in color.  Bright fruit-forward aromas of brambly black cherry, cherry and black berries are inflected with licorice, black pepper, and a meaty note.  Medium bodied, soft, dry, with light clenching tannins, balance is good.  Open-knit easy-quaffing flvors of black cherry, black berries, licorice, black pepper, stony mineral and a light saline streak have good purity and concentration.  The finish features a jot of mouth puckering tannin, with good length and persistence.  September 2017
