Heart & Hands Pinot Noir 2013: $24 Good+

The Heart & Hands Pinot Noir (Finger Lakes, NY) 2013 $24 [Good+] is a light, fruity, and pleasant Pinot Noir with some complexity.  With a bit more concentration and better mannered tannins it would have been “very good.”

Light brick orange in color, there are light and genial aromas of candied strawberry and cherry, accented by toast, spice, and herbs.  The nose has a slight “medicine cabinet” quality.  Medium bodied, with light gritty tannin and good acidity, the tannic grit detracts from this wine’s balance.  Light forthright flavors of fresh cherry and strawberry are touched by spice, herbs, and a stony note, as well as moderate bitterness.  The finish is gritty, with a bitter note and good length.  January 2016
