Red Tail Ridge Pinot Noir 2014: $23 Good+

The Red Tail Ridge Winery Pinot Noir (RTR Estate Vineyard, Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $23 [Good+] is a well made wine with moderately intense cherry fruit and an abundance of savory aromas and flavors, which gives it a somewhat stern demeanor.  Drink it with food.

Light brick orange/ruby in color, the aromas are rather tough and stern, with scents of stone, graphite, lavender, bitter herbs, and medicine cabinet, which take the upper hand over moderately intense sappy cherry fruit.  Medium bodied, tart, with light grippy/gritty tanning, balance is OK.  Flavors of candied sour cherry, stone, bitter herbs and a little spice are pure and do have some concentration, but high acidity and imperfect focus detract a bit.  The finish shows more tannin and moderate length.  Sour cherry and spice linger.  October 2016
