Billsboro “Leidenfrost Vineyards” Pinot Noir 2015: $28 Good+

The Billsboro “Leidenfrost Vineyards” Pinot Noir (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $28 [Good+] is a very savory Pinot, with pronounced aromas and flavors of mushroom, minty green herbs, and slate.  There is some attractive cherry fruit too, but it fades quickly after an initial mid-palate impression.  Drink this bottle with food.

Light ruby garnet in color, medium intense aromas feature ripe cherry, mushroom, minty green herbs and slate mineral, as well as a hint of medicine cabinet.  Medium bodied, plump and open knit, with light firm tannin, balance is good.  Flavors of tart red cherry make a good initial impression but are rather quickly subsumed by savory notes — slate mineral, green herbs, and a dollop of bitterness.  The finish is lightly tannic, with more pronounced oaky notes and a light bitter streak.  Length is average.  November 2017
