Eminence Road “Seneca Lake” Pinot Noir 2015: $25 Very Good+

The 2014 Eminence Road “Seneca Lake” Pinot Noir was hugely successful, a winning Pinot Noir.  Its successor, the Eminence Road Farm Winery “Seneca Lake” Pinot Noir (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $25 [Very Good+] is top notch too, if rather different in character.  Very well balanced, with pure flavors and a good deal of complexity, this is a distinctive wine.  Its dark cherry fruit and stony/mineral notes suggest a Chinon from France, blended with a spicy Finger Lakes Pinot Noir.  Terrific to sip with cheese, this bottle will also work very well with food.

Medium ruby in color, the aromas feature black and red cherry, gravel, stones, black pepper, tar, and a dashes of herbs and horse barn.  Medium bodied, with light gritty tannin and a spicy character, balance is very good.  Flavors of black and red cherry, stones, tar, and dried mushroom have impressive focus and concentration.  An underlying saline note gives the flavors a mouth watering quality.  The finish is harmonious, balanced, and very well concentrated, with fine length.  August 2017
