Toro Run Pinot Noir 2015: $19 Good+

The Toro Run Pinot Noir (Finger Lakes, NY) $19 Good+ may not have a great deal of power or length, but the sappy cherry/strawberry fruit is pure and the wine is well made.

Light ruby in color, the Toro Run looks nearly like rosé.  Light to moderately intense aromas of fresh sappy cherry and strawberry fruit are accented by notes of tar, bitter herbs, tobacco and smoky mineral.  Medium bodied, silky, with good acidity and light firm tannin, balance is good.  Light to moderate flavors of cherry, strawberry, tar, bitter herbs, and spice are not as compelling as the aromas and cede a bit too much ground to notes of tar and bitter herbs.  Bitter notes take hold in the spicy average-length finish.  January 2017
