Barry Family Cellars Pinot Noir 2016: $19 Poor to Fair

The Barry Family Cellars Pinot Noir (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $19 [Poor to Fair] is an example of a non-interventionist wine which jumped the rails.  This bottle has some nice cherry fruit, but various wine flaws are its undoing.

Very light bright ruby in color, heavy aromas of cherry, sour cherry, milky lees, medicine cabinet, and band aids mainly show off this wine’s flaws.  Medium bodied, silky, with light tannin, the BFC is round and mouthfilling.  Balance is OK.  Flavors of cherry, milky lees, medicine cabinet and horse barn are heavy, odd, and cloying (the wine is better cold).  The finish is quite bitter, with some length.  Unpleasant barn yard and medicine cabinet flavors linger.  December 2017
