Damiani “Davis Vineyard” Dry Riesling 2016: $22 Very Good

The Damiani Vineyards “Davis Vineyard” Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $22 [Very Good] is a soft and laid-back wine, with baked peach and fruit cocktail flavors, as well as strong smoky/chalky mineral accents.  Although this bottle is off dry, the softness and ripeness of its fruit makes it seem closer to medium dry.  Sip this wine or serve with food.

Light straw in color, the aromas include scents of pear, canned peaches, chalky/smoky mineral and hints of anise.  This is not a Riesling on the citrus side of the spectrum.  Medium bodied, soft, off to medium dry, with relatively low acidity and a slight chalkiness, balance is good.  Flavors of pear, canned peaches, fruit cocktail, a fairly strong smoky/chalky mineral note, and hints of anise have good concentration.  The finish is gentle and balanced with good to very good length.  Chalky notes linger.  January 2018
