Dr. Konstantin Frank “Eugenia” Dry Riesling 2016: $30 Very Good+ to Excellent

The Dr. Konstantin Frank “Eugenia” Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $30 [Very Good+ to Excellent] may be the epitome of the Frank style — very dry and mineral, with racy acidity, and flavors that venture into Sauvignon Blanc territory.  Although this wine is high in acidity and quite dry, Riesling enthusiasts will probably still enjoy it as a sipper.  It will also work very well with food.

Medium straw in color, the Eugenia has racy scents of lime, apple, gooseberry, citrus zest, and a strong mineral component.  Thls is very Sauvignon-styled Riesling.  Medium bodied, very dry, with a slight spritz and high acidity, balance is very good.  Mouth watering flavors of lime, apple, gooseberry, white peach and a strong slate and chalk element have very nice precision, freshness and intensity.  The finish is well balanced, with very good length.  January 2018

Note: Tasted over a number of days, this wine may well hit the “excellent” mark after some time in the cellar.
