Forge “Lower Caywood Vineyard” Dry Riesling 2016: $24 Very Good+

The Forge Cellars “Lower Caywood Vineyard” Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $24 [Very Good+] is a delicious wine — round and full bodied, with plenty of acidity for balance, and rich waxy/buttery flavors.  This is a flexible wine that can be sipped with snacks or served with richer dinner entrées.

Dark yellow in color (approaching light gold), the Forge has a very attractive nose of buerre blanc, ripe apple, lemon oil, lime, and hints of tea.  Full bodied, with a full round mouth feel and plently of acidity to match, balance is very good.  Rich waxy flavors of ripe apple, buerre blanc, lemon oil and an earthy note have very nice purity and concentration.  The finish is tangy, with solid fruit flavors and light earthy/tea notes, a smack of the lips, and very good length.  March 2018
