Hermann J. Wiemer Dry Riesling 2016: $18 Very Good+

The Hermann J. Wiemer Dry Riesling (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $18 [Very Good+] is the best version of this wine since 2012.  Pure, flavorful, nicely structured, with some complexity from an extended fermentation, this is a bottle to drink now or to put away.  It should gain additional richness and complexity with bottle age.  This is a flexible wine too — sip it, or drink it with food.

Medium lemon yellow in color, there are medium intense and nicely defined aromas of tart lemon candy, lime, green apple, apricot, a waxy/lees-y note, and soil.  Medium bodied, off dry to medium dry, nicely textured, with good tangy acidity, balance is very good.  Mouth watering flavors of lemon candy, lime, green apple, fennel, wax/lees, and a soil note are clearly etched with very good intensity.  The finish is tangy, lip smacking, with very good length.  Flavors linger.  June 2017
