McGregor Dry Riesling 2016: $20 Good+

The McGregor Vineyard Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $20 [Good+] is a tart well balanced wine with solid flavors.  High acidity and rather neutral flavors mean this wine is most suitable with food.

Pale green-tinged lemon in color, the sharp aromas are dominated by citrus — grapefruit, lemon and citrus zest — with more subtle notes of green apple, tart apricot, gunflint and mineral.  Medium bodied, quite dry, with high acidity and a smidgen of tannin, balance is very good in a high-acid style.  Flavors of grapefruit, green apple, tangy apricot, and gravelly/dusty stones have some substance but are rather neutral in character, lacking intrigue.  The finish is quite tart, lip smacking, with good length.  August 2017
