Silver Thread “Doyle Fournier Vineyard” Riesling 2016: $26 Very Good to Very Good+

The Silver Thread Vineyard “Doyle Fournier Vineyard” Riesling (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $26 [Very Good to Very Good+] is typically the biggest, roundest, peachiest wine in the Silver Thread single vineyard portfolio, and this year is no exception.  The grapes for this wine come from old vines planted in silt-loam soils by Charles Fournier in 1973.  The age of the vines, the warmth of the location (in the so-called “banana belt”), and the depth and relative fertility of the soils all shape this wine, contributing to its rich, round, appealing flavors.

Medium lemon yellow in color, the Doyle has fleshy aromas of honeyed peach fruit, citrus, hints of flowers, and earth.  Medium bodied, dry to medium dry, with a great deal of zesty acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of lime, peach, honey, citrus zest and an earthy note have very good concentration.  The finish is balanced with very good length.  August 2017
