Empire Estate Dry Riesling 2015: $18 Very Good

Compared to the 2014, this Empire Estate Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $18 [Very Good] is softer and less incisive, with peachier flavors.  The forte of this wine is its balance, which is very good.  Flavors have nice focus and moderate intensity.  They are not powerful.  As a result, the wine struggled with salmon in cream sauce.  More a food wine than a sipper, drink this with light to moderately intense foods.

Medium lemon yellow in color, the aromas are tart, piercing and austere, with scents of lemon, green apple, white peach, nut oils and shalestone.  Medium bodied, dry, with abundant spritzy acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of peach, lime, citrus zest, white pepper and shalestone mineral have good concentration and focus.  The finish is spicy and full of shalestone notes, well balanced, with very good length.  November 2016
