The Randolph O’Neill Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $21 [Very Good] is a snappy mineral Riesling which will work very well with food or as a sipper.
Medium lemon in color, the O’Neill has a tart and mineral nose, with scents of lime, ripe apple, anise and lots of stony/chalky mineral. Medium bodied, medium dry, with a good deal of acidity, the acid/sugar balance is very well done. Balance is very good. Flavors of lime, apple, apricot, anise and a chalky mineral note have good concentration. A saline & mouthwatering quality adds to the wine’s appeal. The finish is tart, lip smacking, and mineral with nice length. February 2017.
