Ravines Dry Riesling 2015: $18 Very Good

Tasting the Ravines Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $18 [Very Good], you might think they mislabeled the bottle.  Is this really Sauvignon Blanc?  Austere, smoky/stony, with grapefruit flavors and a dry mouth watering character, this well balanced wine is meant for food.  Drink it with light to medium intense dishes.

Light lemon in color, smoky, dusty/stony and steely notes are the most prominent aromas, with scents of lemon, grapefruit and citrus zest playing backup.  It is a cool, austere, and reserved nose.  Medium bodied, dry, open-knit, with substantial acidity, the Ravines is well balanced.  Mouth watering flavors of green apple, grapefruit, anise, smoke, stone, and a hint of hazelnut have good clarity and focus and moderate concentration.  The mouth watering finish is of-a-piece with good length.  January 2017

Note: This wine does not hold up well in the fridge, so drink it at one sitting.
