Tierce Dry Riesling 2015: $30 Very Good

The Tierce Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $30 [Very Good] is a departure from previous vintages of this wine.  In years past, Tierce has been very dry, high in acid, and “long and lean” (at their best).  This 2015 comes from a different mold.  It is off dry and pretty, nicely made, with captivating aromatics, but without a great deal of intensity.  Like many other 2015 dry Rieslings, the flavors are pure but a bit dilute.  Lacking power, this wine is best as a sipper.

Light to medium lemon in color, the aromas are harmonious and pretty, featuring scents of lemon/lime, nectarine, dried apricot, shale stone mineral, and a honeyed/waxy note.  Light bodied, off dry, with average acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of lemon/lime, apple, nectarine, blood orange and shale stone mineral have an appealing harmony but are not especially concentrated.  Flavor diminishes rather quickly in the average length finish.  September 2017
