Anthony Road Dry Riesling 2014: $18 Good+ to Very Good

Anthony Road makes zippy high-acid dry Rieslings.  The 2013 was one of my favorites.  This wine goes beyond “zippy” and is downright tart.  Like lemonade without enough sugar, the AR now seems a little out of balance, with acid trouncing fruit.  So, for the moment, this is recommended only for “acid heads.”  However, given some bottle age, this wine will most likely improve.

The Anthony Road Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $18 [Good+ to Very Good] is medium lemon in color.  Subdued aromas of green apple, white peach, citrus and earth are obscured to some extent by acid notes.  Medium bodied, round and off-dry, the AR has a surfeit of acidity.  Flavors of green apple, white peach, grapefruit, and a bit of earth have real substance but sometimes seem in danger of being vaporized by the tartness of the wine.  The finish is blazingly tart with good length.  July 2015

Note:  This wine was better after being open a day, boding well for its future.
