Fox Run Dry Riesling 2014: $18 Good+

The Fox Run Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $18 [Good+] has a very raw acid/mineral nose.  The flavors are better than the aromas, and balance is good,  but the wine is not "of a piece" at the moment.  Improvement may come after a couple of months in the cellar, but this outcome isn’t guaranteed.  If you have a bottle, don’t rush to drink it.

Bright medium lemon in color, the aromas are initially very raw, acidic, and mineral.  With lots of aeration, there are modest scents of lime, lemon, apple, anise and dusty stones.  Medium bodied, off-dry, with nice textural richness in the mid-palate, the Fox Run is quite tangy.  Balance is very impressive at first but the wine seems to lose some harmony with air.  Modestly intense flavors of apple, grapefruit, yellow plum and lime are touched by a little anise and dusty stones.  The finish is tart and lip smacking, with good length.  September 2015.
