Fox Run “Silvan” Dry Riesling 2014: $25 Good+

The Fox Run  Vineyards “Silvan” Riesling (Seneca Lake, NY) $25 [Good+] was fermented in older oak barrels.  There is some tannin in this wine.  Oak and lees exposure have given this bottle a slightly creamy open-knit texture, which contrasts with the tannin.  The flavors here are pleasant, if a bit hard to latch on to.

Pale lemon in color, the very light aromas are slightly creamy, with elusive scents of mandarin orange, grapefruit, citrus zest and stony notes.  There is the barest hint of cream and spice, with stony/mineral notes much more prominent.  Light to medium bodied, soft and round, with a smidgen of tannin, the Silvan has an open-knit character.  Moderately intense flavors of fresh apricot, citrus, anise and stony mineral notes are fresh but rather shy in character.  The is a little smack of the lips in the slightly tough & tannic finish.  Length is average.  September 2015
