Lamoreaux Landing “Round Rock” Riesling 2014: $20 Very Good

The Lamoreaux Landing “Round Rock Vineyard” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $20 [Very Good] is a silky, elegant, tasty dry Riesling, a definite step up from Lamoreaux’s regular dry Riesling.  Although this wine is high in acidity, very good balance means there are no sharp edges, and it does not seem overly tart.  It is more food wine than sipper, and should be especially appealing to those who prefer subtle and restrained Rieslings.

Light lemon in color, sappy aromas of apple, nectarine, lemon drop, anise and chalky mineral have a slightly creamy quality.  Medium bodied, satiny, off-dry, with oodles of tart acidity, the Round Rock has an elegant mouth feel and is well balanced.  Moderately intense flavors of sappy apple, pear, lemon drop candy and anise combine with chalky mineral notes to produce this wine’s subtle and elegant flavors.  The finish is harmonious, with good length.  December 2015
