Point of the Bluff Dry Riesling 2014: $16 Very Good+

The Point of the Bluff Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $16 [Very Good+] is a bracing dry wine, full of citrus, green apple and interesting smoky/steely mineral notes.  It reminded me of Assyrtiko from Santorini, Greece, especially wines made by Sigalas.  Upstate NY and Greece!  Although it is high in acidity, it isn’t sour.  Well balanced in a tart style, this is best with food, although acid lovers might love to sip.

Medium lemon in color, the aromas are strong, tart and steely, with scents of lemon oil, citrus zest, green apple, gunflint and ferrous mineral. Light to medium bodied, off-dry, and loaded with acidity, the POB is tart but very well balanced.  Flavors of lemon, green apple, gunflint, smoke, herbs and mineral have good concentration, and are bracing.  Lots of mouth-puckering and lip-smacking take place in the balanced long finish.
