Silver Thread “Doyle Fournier Vineyard” Riesling 2014: $25 Good+

The Silver Thread “Doyle Fournier Vineyard” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $25 [Good+] is a lively lightweight wine that is pleasing but struggles to achieve harmony.  It is best as a sipper.

Bright medium lemon in color, the nose features light and airy aromas of lemon, tropical fruit, soil tones, hints of honey and some unintegrated acidity.  Medium bodied, medium dry, slightly viscous, there is a good deal of acidity, but this wine does not have the zip or mouth watering qualities  of its cousin, the Silver Thread “STV Estate Vineyard" Riesling 2014.  Lightweight flavors of apple, pink grapefruit, fruit cocktail in sugar syrup and some soil notes are pleasing but not entirely harmonious.  The finish is earthy with good length and a little lip-smacking tang.  June 2015
