Barry Family Cellars “Marshtown” Riesling 2014: $20 Good

The label describes the Barry Family Cellars “Marshtown Vineyard” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) $20 [Good] as “classic dry Riesling.”  Neither dry nor classic, this is straightforward quaffer.

Bright medium lemon in color, there are light and elusive aromas of sweet apple, pear, lemon and some unattractive earthy/bitter notes.  Light to medium bodied, sweet, with an open-knit mouth feel, there is a dollop of sour acidity.  Balance is OK.  Flavors of apple, pineapple, lemon candy and grapefruit zest are straightforward, with modest intensity.  The finish is tart and short.  Some light bitter notes linger.  November 2015
