Bellangelo Late Harvest Riesling 2014: $32 Good+ to Very Good

The Bellangelo Late Harvest Riesling (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 375 ML $32 [Good+ to Very Good] is a pleasant wine with some good lemon-lime-honey flavors.  However, finding a use for this wine might be difficult.  Balance is not good enough for it to be an A-1 sipper, and it lacks the concentration and focus required of a fine desert wine.  Only a half bottle, it is also very expensive given the quality.  This wine improves after a day in the fridge, becoming richer and more structured, so decant it or drink it over several days.

Bright medium lemon in color, the aromas are light-to-medium intense, with sweet and tangy scents of lime, apple, honey and a steely note.  Light bodied, very sweet, with refreshing acidity, balance is so-so on day one, improving considerably on day two.  Flavors of apple, lime, honey, lacquer and a metallic note have good intensity, but don’t always meld to a coherent whole.  The finish is a bit unstructured with average to good length.  October 2016
