Dr. Konstantin Frank “Reserve” Riesling 2014: $25 Very Good+

The Dr. Konstantin Frank “Reserve” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $25 [Very Good+] is a very well made sweet wine, with some complexity, solid flavors and fine balance.  It is a pleasure to sip.

Dark lemon yellow in color, the aromas are clear and focused, with scents of lime, kiwi fruit, lemon oil, and pine atop notions of richer honeyed pear and white peach.  There is an interesting charcoal/mineral note too.  It is a very cool but enticing set of aromas.  Medium bodied, soft and gentle, sweet, with snappy acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of lime, kiwi, apple, pear, white peach, pine needles and honey are underlined by the intriguing charcoal/mineral note.  Playful acidity keeps the gentle flavors interesting.  The finish is of a piece with good length.  February 2016
