Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi Dry Riesling 2014: $15 Very Good+

The Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) $15 [Very Good+] has many of the outstanding qualities of its sibling, the Dr. Frank Dry Riesling 2014.  Very well balanced and focused, with concentrated fruit and a lovely light touch so often missing in semi-drys, this wine is further evidence that the 2014 sweet Rieslings are superior in quality to the 2013s.  A great sipper, this wine has good zippy acidity and can be served with food too.

Medium lemon in color,  the aromas are tart and vivid, with scents of grapefruit, grapefruit zest, lime, apple, honey and a smoky/chalky note. Medium bodied, a bit soft in the middle, medium sweet, spritz-y crackling acidity gives this wine energy and a balanced mouth feel.  Substantial flavors of pink grapefruit, apple, tropical fruit, citrus zest and an attractive & enlivening smoky mineral note are focused, with nice intensity.  The finish is balanced, with very good length and a notable spicy tang.  November 2015
